About Matt

My name is Matt and I have been a developer of applications for about 10 years. I primarily work in Microsoft products. I started out in the Office applications and became certified as a master instructor (includes master’s level certifications in Access, Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint). I took these tools to their max potential, even pushing Access to a multi-tier multi-user national database tool(when you make access this big you really learn some streamlining techniques!). This stage moved me into further development with programming and database tools: VBA, VBScript, VB6, VB.NET(1.0, 1.1, 2.0, 3.5) as well as SQL Server 2K – 2008 including Report Services, SSIS, T-SQL, etc.  And of course along the way you learn some flash, photoshop, html, xml, javascript, SSIS, BATCH, etc.

The beauty of this work is that you get to learn much. It is an exciting profession. The beast is that it is never ending. It is easy to feel like your repository of knowledge wanes in comparison to the vast amount of information floating around. But it is the nature of this profession. Most arrogance stems from a fear of not knowing enough. And at the same time there are those brilliant enough to deserve a little pride.

I have a master’s degree in psychology from Pepperdine University, a bachelors degree in psychology and religious studies, and minors in counseling and philosophy.

I have a beautiful wife and two kids. My personal-family website is pinecones.wordpress.com and an online photography journal on www.mattclingan.com

  1. Hi Matt,

    I want to tell you that you have a great web site and your notes from Dev Connections were very helpful for me. I didn’t make a lot of notes at the conference so now I can use yours. :}

    I assumed that the CD we got at the conference will include the detailed presentations but unfortunately it wasn’t the case.

    You made a lot of pics at the conference. Can you publish some of them on your web site?

    Cheers,
    Yulia
